Begin with the reader
Consider the person you want to reach and the experience your book offers. The cover should help that person recognize a book they might enjoy.
Choose a visual direction
Collect examples and explain what attracts you to them. A shared vocabulary of mood, subject, and typography makes the creative conversation more useful.
Think small as well as large
A cover may first appear as a small thumbnail. Clear hierarchy helps the title and central idea remain recognizable at a glance.
Review the complete edition
The front cover is only one part of a print book. Review the spine, back cover, typography, and interior as a connected reading experience.
